There are four areas of the country with a Slight Risk for severe weather today. The first Slight Risk area includes northeastern WY & western SD, a second Slight Risk area includes far northern MN, and a third Slight Risk area includes southern MN, west-central & southwestern WI, IA, western IL, and northeastern MO. Within each of these three areas, isolated large hail and isolated damaging wind gusts are possible with these storms. Heavy rainfall may also result in localized flash flooding with these storms as well.A fourth and final Slight Risk area includes east-central & northeastern PA, the northern half of NJ, southeastern NY, LI, CT, MA, R where isolated damaging wind gusts will be the primary threat. Heavy rainfall with these thunderstorms may also result in localized flash flooding as well.

A period of excessive heat is expected to impact much of the Plains and MS & OH Valleys today through the weekend. This includes the eastern halves of NE, KS, & OK, the southern half of IA, much of MO, much of IL, IN, OH, and central & western KY. High temperatures in the middle to upper 90s with lows in the middle to upper 70s can be expected each day today through Sunday. Heat indexes of 105-110 can be expected during the hottest part of the afternoon and evening hours. The worst of the heat in the Plains & MS Valley will be today through Sat with the heat spreading eastward into the OH Valley Thu through Sunday. Those working outdoors should limit their exposure to the heat and ingest plenty of fluids to prevent heat illness and heat stroke.

Elsewhere, there are no other significant hazards of concern across the US today.
