There is an Enhanced Risk for severe thunderstorms today in the northwestern TX Panhandle & NM border, OK Panhandle, far eastern CO, western KS, and southwestern NE. The main threats are scattered large hail (some greater than 2 inches diameter) and scattered damaging wind gusts. A few tornadoes cannot be ruled out as well. A Slight Risk surrounds the Enhanced and includes far southeastern WY, the eastern half of CO, eastern NM, western & far northwestern TX, northwestern OK, central KS, and central & western NE where isolated damaging wind gusts and isolated large hail are expected. Heavy rainfall with these storms may also generate flash flooding of low-lying and poor drainage areas near fast responding small streams & creeks.

There is a separate Slight Risk for severe thunderstorms today in southern IN, the northern half of KY, southern OH, WV, the northern half of VA, MD, DE, west-central & southwestern NJ, south-central & southeastern PA. The main threats in this region are isolated damaging wind gusts and isolated large hail.

In the TX Panhandle, the northwestern half of OK, central & eastern KS, western MO, southeastern IA, and western IL, scattered to numerous thunderstorms developing today will contain heavy rainfall rates. This rain, falling on already saturated grounds, will result in rapid runoff and areas of flash flooding, especially near small creeks/stream and in low-lying or poor draining urban areas. Localized road closures and a few water rescues cannot be ruled out.
